as promised readers, heres my post on trust.
i will attempt to make this post particularly progressive... i do hope to write a meaningful, in-depth article which really EXAMINES trust. what it is, what it means to people and the various circumstances under which the level of trust between two friends fluctuates. why though? why spend so much of my time trying to dissect that which is so ethereal? well... because i feel that i absolutely have to. trust... is something that i have a problem with. i admit, i never trust something over which i have no control. to not know whether this plan will go the way i want it to, or to be able to only guess at the outcome of a choice is completely unbearable to me. so i wanted to do this article not only for your viewing pleasure (because you like looking at my blog > < ) but also for my own good. i intend to resolve my problem, and i truly feel that by putting it all down in words and hearing your responses to them (again, in person), this effort will not be in vain.
first, lets examine trust. trust is the belief in someone else. its incorporal nature makes it so difficult to obtain, yet allows it to flit away at the slightest gust. when you place trust in someone, your placing hope and belief in him/her. thus it is safe to say to TRUST someone is to place a part of yourself and your expectations with that someone. you rely on that person one way or another, which makes you vulnerable in a sense. so with this definition of trust in mind, allow me to move on to the second part of this post. what trust means to people.
trust is a bridge between two people. as they trust each other more and more, the bridge becomes stronger. every promise kept is an extra girdle, every word unbroken extra mortar and brick. but there is a bad side to all of this. undoubtedly, in the course of a friendship theres bound to be cracks. the foundation weakens when there is betrayal of trust, and sometimes something so horrible happens that the bridge COLLAPSES. this, however, is NOT the worst scenario.
you see, when trust is lost... utterly, truly lost, two people become estranged from each other. [edit#1: thanks for your input kiat. : ) see, i AM willing to change my blog and my words! so please come forward with your ideas and opinions lads and lasses.] awkwardness, bitterness and even hate manifests between them. thus, isnt trust, above all else, most important between friends? with a lost of trust, comes a lost of everything to DO with friendship! negative feelings replace goodwill and loyalty, rendering a partnership void and empty. therein lies the worse case scenario earlier mentioned. can you guess it yet? alright, if you cant, heres imagery to save the day!
two towns built a bridge spanning a river between them. they worked with each other day and night to complete it. over time, residents from both cities became great friends and the two flourished. but one day, something happened. the bridge, weighed down by the constant stream of vehicles and men, gave way. the two towns were devastated! how could such a calamity occur? upon investigation, it was found that the foundations laid were never reinforced. over time, the strain eroded the bridge's support columns, leading to the disaster. instantly, both cities went at each others' necks. the blame game was played, with the two sides furious at the other. either insisted that the other was responsible, and this went on and on and on, and the bridge was never rebuilt.
see it now? : ) because the two cities were so set on their arguements, the bridge would remain unrepaired. neither could benefit from the other and both were doomed to mediocrity. therefore, the worse case scenario is NOT a friendship being lost, but if the friends never try to regain each others' trust. taaadaaaa!
lastly. why does trust fluctuate so? why can it be removed with a flick of the wrist and what on earth can any of us do to show that we are trustworthy again? questions with hard answers... indeed, answers which evade me. im at a lost. but when the situation arises... i think ill know what to do. i think that its instinct. its impossible to analyse trust on such a general level, but when we are faced with it we know EXACTLY how to react.
in closing, readers, treasure your trust. take the time to look at all the friends you have and appreciate how much trust you can spare all of them. now examine all the relationships that you have either abandoned or allowed to fade. if you had a chance, which of these would you save? alright thats good...
now go save them will ya? : ) cmon do it for your own good ladies and gentlemen! or else that friendship will slip through your fingers, and youll be stuck forever regretting the loss of someone close to you. trust me! : )
