letting it drop, not slip, from between your fingers

evening my readers. : )

heres that post ive been working on for a really really long time. ive given it a lot of thought and writing something like this really takes it outta a guy. but if i dont post this, then id be lying a lot to the people around me and, even more unacceptable, to myself.

letting go. what does it mean? to truly, let go? for me it implies the act of releasing something which we hold close to our hearts. this something can be a treasure, a memory or a feeling. when we let go of any of these, we are making a final, often irreversible motion. so why do we have to let go? why why why... because more often than not, its the best thing to do.

when we let go of a priceless object, we surrender an item of enormous value to us. whether it be of great sentimental or impressive economical value matters not. it pains us to see it go. this is because it gives us security, simply because we feel better having it in our possesion. we are comfortable and safe in the knowledge that we have a grasp on this thing which no one else appears to have. thus, it is so very difficult.

but we have to let go of these treasures sometimes. whether it be a choice on our own part or we are given little other option, we find ourselves letting go of these treasures in the course of our lives. it could be a prized car, a remnant from our youth (a blanket or pillow perhaps?) or even something far far simpler... like a picture.

this leads to my ideas on letting go of a memory. a memory is a POWERFUL thing. it can bring back joy and sadness, hate and love, longing and finding. one day you can be walking along a road when you see or hear something which instantly brings back memories of times long past. this is comparable to running headlong into a brick wall, the shock threatens to overwhelm.

these memories may make you smile... or tear at the heart. therefore some people, rather than risk these dreaded memories... forget them. distancing themselves causes them less hurt. they want to stop thinking about the past because when they do they experience unwanted emotions.

for example, kiat cant let go of his memories of disservice done to his fine person. if he felt wronged one way or another, my dear chum will cling to those memories and rant about them to whoever will listen.

this is unhealthy, so i told him today "kiat, next time your angry at this person for some reason or another, close your eyes and do a prayer. for 5 seconds, ask God for patience and tolerance because you know that losing your cool would NOT be what God wants to see his child doing. at the end of that 5 sec, youll be feeling a LOT better."

this would help him let go of his bad memories, and the bad feelings that follow him around.

ah, we finally move into letting go of feelings. this is a daunting task indeed. feelings are so convulated. unlike memories or treasures, feelings are complicated and tend to linger. how do we get over them though? how do we let go of emotions, especially if every part of us screams to hold on and dont let them slip through your fingers?

... by knowing that it is the right thing to do. by convincing yourself through thorough thought that letting go is the RIGHT path to take. its how i do it anyway.

i stare at every option that i have. there are choices that make things easier, that make circumstances seem more bearable, however short-lived. but that clearly isnt correct is it now? no, like i mentioned in a post before dear friends... we must face and RESOLVE our problems.

thus, if you know deep within your soul, your HEART that letting go is the BEST thing to do. then that makes it better. understand now my readers? when you wake up in the morning or lie sleepless at night thinking about your feelings... you get by just by looking at what your doing now and knowing that it is the wisest thing you can accomplish.

take a look at my situation. im supposed to be letting go of my emotions. they cause me IMMEASURABLE pain and hurt, but its getting easier by the day. frighteningly so. why? because i know that its the bridge that, despite leading away from what ive believed in for so long, is most steady. at the end of that bridge, ill find happiness and peace.

of course its hard. of course it takes time. but it is inevitable. in the future, i can look myself in the mirror, gaze right into my eye and say "i dont love her anymore" without lying.

this is made that much closer to attainment because i understand completely that letting go of my feelings for her is the only road left to me now. being friends is her decision and i respect that. i believe, though it took me some time, that it is the best thing to do.

and since this is the best thing to do... it gives me comfort. i assure myself whenever i feel doubt or uncertainty that im doing the right thing. im following God's plan, because my future is in His hands. and His plan for me right now is to acknowledge that letting go is crucial for my life to go on.

yes, thats it blog fans. : ) my post on letting go. it is something which we ALL must go through, and often more than once in our lives. i hope if you read this, you learn something useful. it was a breakthrough for me anyway, to really recognise how i could go about letting go of my feelings fastest.

goodnight, my friends. sleep tight. i know i will : )

All American Rejects' Move Along

Go ahead as you waste your days with thinking
When you fall everyone sins
Another day and you've had your fill of sinking
With the life held in your
Hands are shaking cold
These hands are meant to hold

Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along Move along

So a day when you've lost yourself completely
Could be a night when your life ends
Such a heart that will lead you to deceiving
All the pain held in your
Hands are shaking cold
Your hands are mine to hold

Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along
