you know, its amazing how a little effort can go a long, long way. with just the smallest push, you can budge yourself to do something which you initially really do not want to do, but end up with results that make you feel glad you did it. be it forcing yourself to refuse friends so you can study for an exam or test, going for a gym session when you just feel like lazing about at a home with food ( glorious food! ) or keeping your word.
i have done all three and i truly believe that we DO reap what we sow. studying for prelims i had to make a special effort to discipline myself and tell friends that i could only join them in their fun and frolic AFTER the exams. that paid off, and my decent Prelim scores made me confident that i could really get my grades for A levels.
gyming is probably even harder! running away from the soda drinks and unhealthy foodstuffs in my humble abode to WORK and SWEAT is near unendurable. but you just feel GOOD in the following days! thats cause my muscles arnt the only things that grow - so does the sense of brotherhood i share with the people i gym with
lastly, to keep your word.
please, bear with me while i sink into meaning and philosophy once more. to keep one's word is to make a promise and never break it. when you promise someone something, you dont only reassure the person that your going to come through for them. no, its far more than that. above all, your making a promise to YOURSELF. you owe it to YOURSELF to fulfill a vow. make no mistake, breaking your word is destructive. it hurts the person you are (or were, if the situation is staggeringly bad) friends with, and above all it harms your own person. how can the friend ever look at you the same way again? how can he/she know that they can ever trust you again, knowing that if you could break your word once, nothing keeps you from doing it again. thus, you lose credibility with a friend, making your life more miserable and filled with self-doubt. ill go more into this on my next post, because i realise that a side note here doesnt do the topic of TRUST justice.
back to keeping my word. a few days ago, my friend jayshree invited me to her house for deepavali celebrations and to meet up with some old class mates!!! when i heard i was overjoyed! a chance to see good old daryl, kelvyn, josia, joshua, geraldine, chi lyn, joy, alaric, johnson and krystle again? sign me up!!! so i promised jayshree that i would be there.
yesterday evening ( the day itself!) i called jayshree to ask who was going. she replied that darius, john chen and xian wei were already at her house. confused, i questioned her about the attendance of the rest of AD4. who else was going? what time did they say they were going? who did you ask? she gave me unsatisfactory answers for all of these questions. apparently, it was just the 4 of them.
at this point of time, you can guess my disposition. i regressed into apathy after that phone call. should i travel all the way to jurong west to hang out with this small group of people, one of whom i dislike? i mean, i COULD just stay at home at DOTA my brains out.
eventually, i decided that i WAS going over to jayshrees place. despite the FRIGGIN distance and copious lack of AD4, i told myself that i promised my friend since j1 that i would turn up and that was exactly what i would do. so after the immense distance and trouble locating block 752 i finally got there!
and i had the time of my life!!!!!!! hahaha it was great! we laughed and talked the whole night away with beer and nice indian food! i forgot how jolly darius was, how charming xian wei could be and how jayshree could nag about anything yet make it humorous. and to my amazement, i found that john had MA - friggin - TURED! well a bit anyway. so it was all good fun! we joked about each other ( hahahhaa jayshree) recalled great memories ( xian wei's worrying message at 4 am in the morning... ) and swapped experiences ( darius, your the 1st person ive ever heard who WANTS to go back to BMT...).
presenting....
the amazing papadum!!! ( kids dont try this with friends' papadums.. this one was SPECIAL!)
the quaint quintet ( AHA!!!!)

so in closing, handphone photos are blurry and dont do any of these fine men and women justice. ill get the photos asap from xian wei and put em up then. : ) look forward to my next post on TRUST readers!!! i know i am!
Blink 182's Going Away To College
Please take me by the hand
It's so cold out tonight
I'll put blankets on the bed
I won't turn out the light
Just don't forget to think about me
And I won't forget you "I'll write you once a week" she said
