THATS RIGHT!!! my very own cubicle!!! muahahaha hope my supervisor doesnt catch me, she confirm tell my uncle lah.
anyway, today ill be talking about my job and what im doing at UOB for the next couple a months. keeping that in mind, ill also delve into the mind of an unemployed person(examining his thoughts and inclinations), simply due to the abundance of such out of work men and women i find myself surrounded with recently(more specifically, jerome, kiat and calvin).
how about starting off with how i started working at this widely recognised banking firm? well, i always had a passion for economics and what not. i love how a country's laws may be controlled by a government, but how the very same government cannot always dominate powerful companies within its own borders.
thus, i expressed an interest to work at my uncle wheelock's(wen ting's pa, if you all remember a post a while back) stockbroking branch of UOB ever since i could remember. i had something to prove: that i would become a friggin economic wizard, and he was willing to give me the leg-up i needed.
unfortunately, there was a tiny setback. during the holidays, my mother and father asked uncle wheelock to try me out with an internship. this was all swell and lovely you would assume, but the thing is they didnt consult ME first. they asked without clarifying my schedule and my plans for the next 4 months of complete freedom(this being complete because... ok, ill go into that in my next post: ultimate liberty).
clearly, i was upset and all. thats forcing me to do what you think is best for me, not i want i dont need a job now i need to party etc etc etc. but i got over it. looking at it from a top-down perspective, deep down i knew that it was what i really wanted. few reasons
1) cash, one k a month, comes about to 7.80 an hour. 830-530, 1230-2 lunch break. overtime starts from 530, pays 1.5 normal pay per hour. work beyond 8 get 15 dollar allowance.
2) exp, 3 whole months worth. i imagine applying for uni against hundreds of other students will be that much easier with this under my belt.
3) boredom, not like im doing anything during the day right. must as well get out and see stuff instead of dotaing at home and smoking away my life.
that aside.
right now, my job is in the research branch of the UOB kay hian stockbroking firm. im an intern helping out this woman called nancy, to source out firms which show great potential and convince sales that they are worth investing in.
its three steps, basically.
uno) we look at firms(right now im investigating shipping, freighting... transportation firms and what not), digging up any dirt we can find and determining whether they are fundamentally stable.
dos) when we find a promising business, we uncover further information about them. if everything looks great and profits are looming over the horizon, we proceed to the final step
tres) which is to convince sales, with all the intell weve gathered, that buying shares in this firm is a wise decision.
: ) my job in a nutshell!!!
and its damn fun too. im conducting research and compiling tables of all these firms, trying to weed out any signs of distress or undiscovered harvests just waiting to be reaped. i think of it like a game, and im the guy who helps the top dog decide whether or not to put money into this venture or not.
in any case, its all good baby! when i get my 1st paycheck ima go crazy lah. one friggin k, flat rate, EXCLUDING overtime. warrrnniinnnggg live without warning!!!
alright, i have to devote less time to talking about unemployed people than i usually would, because i came back late from lunch and only had 10 min to do this.
simply put..
kiat, jerome, get a job. it pays, you meet new people, you get exp, you get something noteworthy to put on ur cv(kiat, having nice hair wont get you anywhere if you have nothing underneath it.) and you APPLY yourself to something.

to illustrate my delicate point, compare yourselves to my dog, calvin.

oohhhh i love where this is going already.................................
calvins unemployed, but he still gets food, water, a place to stay and free healthcare.
jerome, calvin can run faster than you, so all that gyming was pointless- youd still lose in a race against my dog.
kiat, calvin has better hair than you, so all that dying was pointless- youd still lose in a beauty pageant against my dog.
HOWEVER, you bums are NOT in a welfare state like calvin happens to be, so if you are ever gonna get ahead, get a clue and GET A JOB YOU BUMS.
i still love you guys though. ill buy you beers when i get my first paycheck, promise : ) or maybe just purchase an overpriced pack of tissue from each of you, see how things are a month from now. hahahaha
in conclusion! i may be busy like a bee, but ill make time for my good buddies, no fuckin problem at all. till next time my lovelies, take care!
