he awoke. gleaming sunlight streamed into his room, but somehow never reached far enough to be a nuisance: it rose no higher than his waist, leaving his torse and face shadowed and cool. the distant sounds of downtown traffic were just that: distant. they were too far off to bother the sleepy youth. AND, work was no longer an issue for him. mmm. it looked like another good day.
smiling a contented smile, he turned to his left to check his phone. nine am. time to get up! struggling free of the alluring comforts of his luxurious bed, the youth clambered sluggishly across his room to the cup of water he left on the table the night before. yawning, he took a large swig to clear his throat.
proceeding to the living room, he switched on the television in time to catch a black woman crooning her head off on mtv. common sight nowadays, he thought, moving over to his computer to begin his daily commute.
morning readers! just finished dota and decided to blog a bit before regressing into a comatose state for the rest of today. come, i shall digress about valentines day, and its flaws. "oh but how? why han? i always thought you were all about the romance?" you may ask. well readers, thats EXACTLY why i feel the ugre to clear the foggy air permeating this holiday(which i treasure above many others). i am a romantic at heart(admitedlly, a most hopeless one at that), thus i feel compelled to speak out against the common misconceptions and mistakes entailed with the 14th of february. here we go!
excuse me if i sound a tad obvious, but valentines day is all about LOVE. before dropping your slack jaw and going "duuuuuhhhhhh" like i can imagine so many of you doing(mainly the nanyang girls..................), allow me to mull on the issue at hand. see, many people misintepret the whole meaning of this holiday. they misconstrue everything, often messing up really badly along the way. two classes of such people exist. ima use a blend of imagery and real life happenstance that ive witnessed during my teenage years to delve into this further.
alright, the first is the type where the boy and girl have something going on, but nothing is solidified just yet. this is, of course, the infant stage of the relationship(early to the point of being still shaky). in panic due to their desire for closure or securty, either may use valentines as a sort of "excuse" to jump into something neither may be ready for. this would be because a) they feel an unnatural pressure to act on existing feelings simply due to the hype surrounding valentines day or b) they want to let their counterpart know that they feel this strongly about how things are progressing, making valentines day an unfair outlet. this, obviously, spells disaster with a capital D.
those of you who know me know that i take a very strong stand against such forced situations. relationships need time to be nurtured and develop, because just like wine, they need to sit and ferment to become sweet, lip-smacking. starting a bond before both sides are truly prepared is akin to serving premature wine: bitterness and disbelief is sure to follow.
the second strain of above mentioned misguided miscreants is the singles. bachelors, bachelorettes, whatever you wanna call em, they are the men and women who seem to have no true place in anywhere on valentines day. under the assumption that valentines day was made just for couples, these singles spend it wallowing in self pity, or in the case of the singles and lovin it(yanni, me, etc. etc.) head out for parties with other unattached friends.
mmm this couldnt be more untrue me lovelies. not the part where we go chill out with chums or laze around by ourselves of course, but the part where valentines day is reserved for two people who are more than friends. valentines day, as i said before, is all about love. its about spreading and showing your care and affection, and theres no reason why you shouldnt display your love for friends and family. as a matter of fact, i encourage it! show the people who matter in your life how much they mean to you!
well thats it! an extremely summarised version of my take on valentines day. usually i wouldnt cut these things short, because lets face it, we all love a good long read off lauhan-loong.blogspot.com. however, i must start preparations for arena tonight with jaesh, jia and the rest. singles night out dont you know.
so in closing readers, i hope if you have fallen into either one of the above situations, i pray that my blogging has given you reason to rise up and over any unfortunate trappings. it took me a while to figure it out(a few years, as a matter of fact) but hey... once i did i promised myself id spread the love as much as possible on my most favourite of celebrations. good night!
Third Eye Blind's Never Let You Go
You say that I changed
Well maybe I did
But even if I changed
What's wrong with it?
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you turn around your back on each other
That's a good idea
Break a promise to your mother
Turn around you're back on each other
And all our friends are gone, are gone
And all the time moves on and on
And all I know is it's wrong, it's wrong
And all I know is it's wrong, it's wrong
If there's a reason
It's lost on me
Maybe we'll be friends
I guess we'll see
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
Turn around you're back on each other
That's a good idea
Break a promise to your mother
Turn around lets turn on each other
Good idea
Break a promise to your mother.
