my countdown

well, i noticed exactly a month from today i will have to begin my national service. thus, i plan to REALLY start living it up. i mean cmon, if i have to go to tekong i wanna go with my fun meter filled up to the brim. it just wont do if i have to spend my two weeks confinement wondering what could have been if i didnt put in special effort to mess around during my last month of absolute freedom.

anyway, ima pick up from where i left off last. saturday evening at chips(which was AMAZINGLY empty!!!), me jerome and xing wei sat before jugs of kool aid and get fucked while munching on a basket of wedges. with bountiful alcohol and tasty food to be had, we loosened up and the chat really started to flow. we laughed about hilarious stuff, discussed more serious matters and played around with thoughts right off the top of our dome.

and then xing wei asked me a question: if you could go back 5 years, or 5 months, or 5 weeks or 5 days and redo anything... would you?

usually id take some time to think this kind of thing over. because, lets face it, more often than we care to admit, we foul up pretty badly. it could be at studies, relationships, what to wear to a party, what to buy a friend for her birthday... we make the occasional mistake. and theres nothing we would love to do more than to have a second shot at things and come out smelling like roses.

but for some reason, my reply was just sitting in the back of my head and i gave it without hesitation. it went something along the lines of "no. i think, that for any person to say yes to such a question would imply that hes been living with regret. or, to be more precise, living with these niggling worries in the back of his mind which he just will never get over, something to stew over and over no matter how old he gets. and, as an extension, it would be safe to assume he has been leading an unsatisfactory life. and thats not me. im pretty satisfied where i am now... so no, i wouldnt change a thing." we toasted to that.

but yeah, really, i can imagine some people giving a completely different answer. which is perfectly fine. some may say i wouldve studied harder for a levels, some may say i wouldnt have said this to that girl/guy and so on and so forth. thats not really an issue. the thing i find most unsettling about this brand of people is that the majority of them just refuse to DO whats most necessary. that is, the next step in the course of the matter.

a little clarification is in order. lets take the people who didnt score so well at a levels shall we? im talking about the men and women who got a grade average of a c or less. i examin these friends of mine who fit into this category, and i am impressed to the point of being astounded. they really plan, as in REALLY PLAN, their next move. whether its downgrading from pas a to c so they get more time to study for the re-sitting or whether its focusing on the SATs for easier entrance into smu, they just bounce right back. unlike so many like them, these champs roll with the punch, they pick themselves up as fast as possible... which makes me proud to call myself a buddy to these headstrong, intelligent and determind people.

well. there you go. a little food for thought, if you so pleased.

anyway, heres a quick summary of what transpired the past couple of days.

sunday was slow! woke up late, went for family lunch(grandmas birthday celebration!), lay low the whole day. not very entertaining, but hey retirement is SUPPOSED to be nice and easy. cant be up every night drinking and coming home late can i? its just not healthy for someone my age. pushing twenty dont you know.

today was, in a word, awesome. yannis birthday, so we planned for me to buy her lunch at portsdown road. although due to a mix up(miss chen wasnt aware the restaurant she suggested is CLOSED ON MONDAYS. : ) <--- thats a grimace.), i ended up taking her to sushi tei for jap chow instead. nonetheless, it was an extremely satisfying meal!

after that, went to coffee bean to chill for a bit before heading off to bugis to get wei's... uh, i mean mei wei's, bag. grabbed some ice cream. talked a bit. and then we went home! yanni had to prepare for her outing with her nanyang friends and i had to get some sleep(slept VERY late the night before). ahhhhhh a day well spent!

i just came back from sixth avenue with adele and im looking forward to watching MORE scrubs!!! WOOHOO!!! oh, chances are, what with everyone getting their bloc leave and school holidays being upon my unfortunate still-studying(studying? pfft, right, who am i kidding) friends, ill probably see you soon enough. till then though, take care and dont wake up on the wrong side of the bed!

Cobra Starship's Guilty Pleasure

And maybe someday i'll believe(maybe someday i'll believe)
That we are all apart of some bigger plan
Tonight i just don't give a damn(so shut your mouth it's time to dance)
If the world is ending, i'm throwing the party

And i came here to make you dance tonight
I don't care about my guilty pleasure for you
Shut up cause we won't stop
And we're getting down till the sun's coming up
