so chip in?
this post started out with a little list. on the left side was the name of a friend who i hold very dear... and on the right was the part of my life which he/she exceptionally brightens up. i completed the list but for some reason it didnt feel right. i tried to clear my thoughts and figure out why this was so. thus, i went downstairs for a quick coffee, came back upstairs and stared at it for a couple of minutes.
and then it hit me: this was contradicting the very thing i professed about friendship in a post a real long time ago. friendships are unique, but to try to brand them or label them according to how much the friend affects a certain area of your life is selfish and condescending. to believe, lets say, that a friend is worth talking to about the injustices of parents or life in general because he or she is a good listener yet at the same time you avoid putting in the effort to plan more outings with him/her just proves how narrow minded you are.
is the friend willing to be simply a side-note, a person who you only require when the time comes along? and for how long? is it really worth the risk, that of losing a treasured friend due to how you manage them according to your own needs? i dont believe so. ill share myself with my friends because there are more hands to catch me if i ever fall anywhere.
friends come from all walks of life, and its only fitting that you allow them to help you along all walks of yours.
Jack's Mannequin's Kill The Messenger
It's not so easy caving in
I walked by your apartment
Twice today while you were gone at work
And all the colors got so dim
It's not as cold out here
But come quick, I am losing feeling
