romance

morning dear readers. im almost 3/4 done with the nine billion share firm(which i hope goes bankrupt. ass holes.), thus i decided to pop by and put up a nice little post concerning... romance! this is not totally out of the blue though, because last night i had a most startling conversation with yanni over what defines a romantic. we covered a lotta stuff, and discovered that romance is actually a lot more... abstract than what either of us assumed. considering our extensive experience in this field(our credentials go MILES long friends. ill leave it to you to decide if thats a good or bad thing.), its needless to say that the revelations were extremely bountiful and even more impressive. in the words of paramore: so take a seat wer settling the final score.

starting off, lets try to define romance. this is a real slippery slope, because if you ask ten different people to give their opinion on romance, chances are youd get ten completely different variations. therefore, ill take everything ive heard so far about this far flung topic and attempt to mould a definition suitable for the discussion at hand, at the same time striving to make this very same definition accessible to all my lovely readers.

first, romance is, above all, NOT an emotion. it distances itself from love, infatuation and affection by a mile simply because it is not solely composed of the feelings mentioned above. far from it. it also contains a certain amount of SCIENCE.

before you scratch your head in incredulity(or in the case of jerome, say fuck this and go play yahoo pool with his ruler...), hear me out. romance is the process with which you display your heartfelt feelings for another person: it is made up of the ACTS you perform to show your lover the extent to which you care and treasure her/him. be it a rose, a poem or a song, romance serves as a platform from which you can display how vibrant and true your love is to a captivated(hopefully) audience(the one your with, or pray to be with.)

keeping that in mind, romance CANNOT be pure love, like etc etc. no, it has to have a sprinkle of rational thought, clear and precise for afore mentioned acts to be perfectly formulated and carried out. each person is distinct and unique, thus what may make one person go, in the words of miss chen, WOW! may completely put off another!

romance is then a blend of science(contemplation and true consideration of the person's preferences before careful and inconspicuous planning) and raw emotion(which is more of a driving force to keep a person focused and determined to make his/her partner feel loved.), a veritable viscous solution.

now, wasnt that simply tantalising.

right right, keeping in the spirit of this post, lemme propose something: that there are countless kinds of romantics. this is obvious to even the most simian of men, but whats most shocking is how immeasurably DIFFERENT people respond to similiar acts of romance.

but then again.

wouldnt two people who have started seeing each other already be on the same, dot i hate using this cliched word, wavelength? acts of romance which are needed by both sides before something fantastic can be solidified HAVE to be properly received by both, lest it ends before even coming into fruition.

hmm. maybe thats why some relationships were never meant to be. romance in the eyes of one person may have been deemed unsavoury or even repulsive by the other party. i refuse to call it fate, thats defeatist talk. i think its just that whatever plan that your life has been deemed to follow just doesnt call for that certain person in your life at that certain time. who knows what the future holds, if the two can grow and change to become more suitable(after many experiences and maturing a bit?) for each other. life's full of surprises after all. : )

thus, i leave you all on an optimistic note. just because one relationship doesnt work out or attempts at one fall apart, does not mean that you are muddled and vastly inadequate. it simply means that the girl or guy was not meant to be more than friends with you at that point of time. this is either because of the irreconcilable differences between you two or the simple fact that you both take vastly separate views on romance and the approach one must take towards a partnership.

so chin up me lovelies, and take solace in the fact that someone somewhere out there will think your the most romantic person alive. : ) cheers and stay amazing friends!

p.s. thanks to yanni for helping me expand my take on romance. great stuff.
