your voice always helps me when i feel so alone

morning blog fans!!! first update in more than two weeks for this humble narrator, and i cant wait to get started. needless to say, this post will be almost entirely contemplating the 15 days i spent on tekong and what i went through. the physical, the mental, the emotional and above all the spiritual will all be put down here cause it is, after all, Army.

firstly! the physical! this part will be extremely turn-offish. i have been on status since my second day in tekong. for the unfamiliar, an ns man on status means that he is incapable of participating in exercises for one reason or another. HAHAHA YES. THIS MEANS THAT FROM THE 11TH OF APRIL TO 25TH APRIL I HAVE DONE ABSOLUTELY NO PHYSICALLY EXERTING TASKS. BWAHAHHAHAA!!!

but on a more serious note, this is worrying at me for quite a few reasons. see, in order to complete bmt, you have to have a 75% attendance or you recourse. hmmm. seems like im cutting it a bit close doesnt it. i mean heck who the hell wants to redo bmt. its like the only part of army which you cant take mc for and not suffer because of it.

in addition to this, ever since i was a wee lad ive never had to do much land training because im a watersports guy. as such, my flat foot is not used to running jumping marching in horrendously arched boots and shoes. i had to suffer a friggin nasty limp for the three days after my first few trainings. the next three days was for the same reason because the shoes i was wearing really pressed into my feet and caused me unimaginable pain. six days have gone past thus.

and then the killer: the one week status. i began feeling a strange pang in my knee so i went to see the mo(who are, in the words of my commanders, "unprofessional",""kao pei" and "fucked up"). apparently the pressure and pain from my feet had spread to my right knee and caused some muscle tendon something something to be injured. yep. wonderful aint it.

thus, i was NOT ALLOWED to train(dont get me wrong, i wanted to participate. some of the stuff they were doing were really interesting. like Standard Obstable Course, speed training and so on.) because if i got further injured, the commanders were liable to get fucked in the ass. horrible isnt it.

the worst is yet to come: so this one day after a lecture, the commanders told us to get our asses on the parade square with our rifles. seven rifles had been stunned right outta their owners lockers(sat's being one of them. HAHAHAHHAA he left his locker combination on the dial. > <) and the commanders were really pissed. rifle physical training was horrible but i still took part because i wanted as much working out as i could get. i was so BORED.

after sweating in the hot sun, we rushed back to the air con lecture theatre to sit through another lesson. where this fuckin idiot(who later came down with a 39 degree fever) coughed on me. turning around, i asked him VERY POLITELY to cover his mouth. a few hours later, when we were returning rifles, my bed buddy coughed on me again. turning around, i asked him VERY POLITELY to cover his fucking mouth. yes.

you can imagine what happened next cant you.

BOOM 38.3 degree fever, an 8 hour stay in the sick bay with an iv drip and nothing to eat but porridge. but hey it wasnt so bad. i was next to these two guys who were quite entertaining. one was from scorpion(not the pussy pas c scorpion jerome went to but the pai kia, gangster batch) and he told me the most fascinating stories. it was all about beating up sergeants, smoking whenever they wanted to and having only 17 people left in the whole company(23 awol, the rest detention barracks or out of training because of injuries or some shit).

mental! not much here. like i always believed, army makes one stupid. its the two years of any males life where brain functions are put on hold in the pursuit of the most single minded goal to be found in singapore. that is, to not piss off your superiors and to do everything in a hurry. despite their proclamations of a thinking soldier, the army promotes the soldier to do everything as fast as we can, as hard as we can without any questions except to find out whether we are doing it right.

emotional! phew! this was one roller coaster ride i can tell ya. whether it be trying my best to not break down, talk to people both in and outta camp when i do or missing my loved ones... it was trying. i really felt the void my friends filled(a very big one, mind you), and try as i might the new friends i met in army just never seemed make the slightest difference. except maybe benedict!!

my bed buddy(ex-bed buddy actually) is from cjc and is... very much like shi han. his sense of humour is the same, his interests are the same and he has a goofy take on life just like my close buddy. but the best part is hes INTERESTED IN GIRLS(unlike my close buddy) so we have much more to talk about and discuss.

and then marcus koh. hes in my company and one day while we were picking weeds together(both of us on status) we started talking. i was never really very close to marcus, heck, i never said hi to him in school, but that day we shared quite a bit with each other. i think i helped him get over a problem pretty well by drawing on my own experiences and he helped me by showing me that other people were going through the same troubles that i was.

finally, spiritual. usually id put this down here, but i dont think i could do it justice. its something that will stay with me the rest of my life and i do not believe that i have to record it to cement it in memory, because God really did touch me during my time in army. ill tell you more about it in person, because the vivid details and expansive gestures can only be conveyed with full gusto in person.

well, to cap it off im going back in on sunday night and i book out again on thursday morning(havnt confirmed) for labour day. tonight im going partying SIAO so im hoping to have a huge blast. im still a bit woozy from my illness(i havnt fully recovered yet, im dizzy like fuck and wooooo my head is spinning) but what the bugger im going for it anyway. YESTERDAY WAS MY BOOK OUT DAY BOOK BOOK BOOK BOOK BOOK OUT DAY!!!

p.s. i cant wait to see all of you tonight me lovelies
