Introducing Adam Occult Finale: Friends In Low Places

she was before her parents, fearful and timid. their stern faces glared down upon her, eyes hard and cold like agate. wearing, as always, their formal business wear. they only ever came to her when they were unhappy with her. she learned this not too long ago.

eyes downcast, she endured their berating. they clung to their traditional values and manners tenaciously, as dictated their upright chinese backgrounds. they almost always found fault with her. this time it was forgetting to come home straight after school. shed only stopped to talk to an old lady who was selling packets of tissue paper. this wouldnt be the first instance the five year old would be scolded for minor disobedience.

they scolded her for not scoring full marks in that maths test.

for being five minutes late for her piano lesson.

for laughing loudly when she followed them to a friends dinner.

she didnt really mind... she was used to asking for forgiveness and following their orders. but sometimes... she wished there was something more. more than living the prim and proper life of an upper middle class girl. like going to playgrounds. or having friends.

Adam was growing impatient. this was beginning to look like something out of a local television serial. and youd never know when those herbs will wear off, this line of work always has been too unpredictable. hed be a sitting duck without his spirit inhabiting his body. the Demon would have a field day. plus, if he wanted bad drama he could just catch the channel eight shows every night. time to fast forward a bit.

skimming skimming... hmm... sadness... ok... sadness.. wow this girl was sad... a teeny flash of anger, well that was bound to flare up... sadness... bugger all lets just skip to the end. whoa! whats this... a year before she died. a pound of passion. sticking up outta her past like some huge scarlet beacon. zoom in...

she lay in his arms, on his bed. she felt safe here, better than her big old manor. she looked up into his face and he smiled back. she found someone who loved her. and who let her love him back. he was older than her by three years, but he still found her. sitting outside a store, scared to go home cause she didnt ace the exam. comforting her, he gave her strength. she started meeting him there for conversation and smiles. soon, something bloomed.

she loved him.

Now this is just getting nauseating, Adam thought. as if he hadnt enough ghouls, ghosts, demons and general insanity to deal with, now he had to sit and watch puppy love to figure everything out?!?! god. fast forward.

she was lost and confused. she stopped having her period a few weeks ago but thought nothing of it. she mentioned it to him, and his face went white. he explained to her what it might mean. she got scared too. they took the test. she was pregnant.

he scarpered, his family sending him to melbourne, or sydney. she couldnt remember. he left without saying goodbye, or explaining why. she didnt know what to do. her parents would never accept her back into the house if they knew. theyd make her an outcast. she had to do something. anything!

her shame kept her from considering all the possibilities. fear as well. she found someone though. someone who said he could help. his name was julian. he was a priest. he had... ways. different ways. she had to try. to make everything alright, to make sure the future was kind. kinder than it had been so far.

she was in julias bedroom. it was clean and spotless. he was putting the finishing touches on the ritual. he lighted the candles. drew his name into the binding word before him. and drew her name... wait. hold on. somethings not right here. she... theres an emotion here. something alien to everything Adams seen so far.

there was definitely something there. right at the moment when julian wrote sophie at the girls circle. something like... remorse? regret? and then a dreadful feeling of finality? what WAS it? its KEY to everything here... but what...

and then it dawned on him.

Adam was shocked into immobility. his mind froze with his comprehension of the whole situation. sophie...

BAM!

yelling, Adam was tossed across the bedroom, once more in his own body. stunned for a moment, he straggled to his feet. hands quivering with exhaustion and dizziness, Adam placed another fag in his mouth and lighted up. he knew now. he knew had happened. and why. the revelation had given him pause, just enough to break his concentration and force him back into his body. just in time too. the incense was wearing off. time to make ready. Demons are a slippery bunch.

Adam pulled a razor from his pants pocket. flicking it open, he rolled up his left sleeve and grimaced a bit. this was gonna hurt. he started cutting. up, down, left, right. the blade etched into his skin wriggly lines and complex patterns. before long, he was done. his forearm dripping blood where he sliced himself open, he wore the engraving like a badge. the Demon didnt know it yet, but it was in for a nasty surprise. he rolled down the sleeve, just as things took a turn for the worst.

the Demon materialised before him in a gust of howling wind, reeking like hell. it was hideous, to say the least. levitating a few inches, its long black hair flowed, greasy and messy, to the floor. its face had a slightly greenish tinge, which gave its features all the more ghastly appearance. its eyes were bloodshot and teared blood down to its chin. its mouth was grotesquely deformed, the upper jaw lacking lips to show teeth yellowed and cracked. the lower jaw was missing entirely, an obscene hole out of which a tongue, long and blood red, hung to the floor. the rest of its body was shrouded in a yellow robe with black runes etched into it. its fingers were extraordinary long.

Adam spoke. and it replied in a harsh, male voice.

"hello you sonofabitch. been waiting for me?"

"you... arrogant fool. you think the herb would keep me at bay forever? i am no whelp. the blinding and stinging incense bothered me, nothing more."

"well, it did its job. worked long enough for me to find out what i needed to know."

"is that so, medium? your kind believe they know all the answers."

"the only one of "my kind" that you need to concern yourself with right now is me. where is she?"

"in a safe place. where she will remain until i see fit. as per the deal. so instead of bantering back and forth like common hagglers... why not you tell me what youve learned and inferred. and i shall tell you what happens next."

glancing back at the body, Adam frowned deeply.

"the girl... she made a pact with you. when you were Called here and julian saw a flaw in the plan, he got out before getting any details. but i figured it out after a bit. you attacked her. but before you could feed on her, she offered something you just couldnt resist. she made a deal with you. and you agreed. i can tell by that smug look on that fuckface of yours."

"go on medium. your doing very well."

"shut up. she was pregnant. which meant that she needed TWO binding words in the circle, or youd be free to take the baby. but therein lies the whole twist, the thing me and julian overlooked. we thought that she wanted the baby aborted. but she didnt did she. she LOVED the baby. and it wasnt HER name on the binding circle... it was the babys. you could harm her... but not the child."

"full marks medium. let me finish that up for you, because now... i believe IM the one holding all the cards. you correctly guessed that she did not want an abortion. she loved her child. BUT, she knew that she could not care for it, could not give it a future. thus... she asked ME to care and teach the child everything that it needed to know to survive... and prosper."

"right. so in exchange for that... not only would you have her soul, as per the "botched" summoning. youd also have free reign over an innocents soul until the deal is complete. you just cant hurt it. youve gotta care for it like a mother cares for her daughter."

"yes yes! and know, her soul languishes in hell. her child, which i ripped lovingly from her womb, resides in my personal domain. ninth circle, just to let you know. where i shall teach it the ways of hell and then, when its ready, i will send it back here to have the life her mother NEVER had."

"right. so basically, im not here to save either her or her daughter. because both are outta my reach. i guess im here to clean up the mess. which involves sending you back to hell. dont worry, i wont kill you. youve gotta uphold your end of the bargain, or an Innocent soul gets stuck down there indefinitely."

"HAH! what bluster! very good then medium. but i doubt youll succeed. i intend on FEASTING tonight, and this whole building will do very, very nicely. thus, without further ado, ill just h-RAAAWWRRR!!"

screaming, it leaped towards Adam. which was just what he was counting on. its hunger and evil would distract it from his plan. spinning, he ran for the door, rolling up his blood soaked left sleeve as he went. the Demons putrid breath was on his kneck, its long fingers scraping for a handhold on his sweater. he could tell it was rushing to taste him. but he was too fast for it.

jumping through the doorway, Adam suddenly turned around and raised his left hand. grinning insanely, the Demon launched itself towards its next meal. and felt a million hooks ravage its skin.

"YAAAARRRGHHHHHH!!!!! WHAT?!?!"

"asshole. see this here on my forearm? Flavians Seal. i carved it right here on my arm. you were confined back to the room the second i turned and linked it back the doorway. moment you stepped through that door, you violated it. now your going straight back to hell. be seeing you."

"NOOOOOOOO!!! MEDIUM!!! I WILL HAVE YOU!!! ILL COME BACK!!! MARK MY WORDS!!! MARK THE WORDS OF QWAY!!!"

it writhed and screeched a bit more on the floor before its essence got pulled back to the ninth circle. painfully and slowly, by the looks of it. Adam stayed to make sure it was indeed gone, then lighted up again. puffing, he stepped out of the flat and walked past julian.

"wait! Adam! what... what happened? is the girl... is she alright"

"well, basically... you got yourself a 15 year old girl who made a pact with a ninth circle demon, selling her soul and her daughters soul, for a while, so sophie, who is actually her daughter and not her congrats on not figuring that out you wanker, can come back with a piece of hell knowledge and really live it up. right now shes suffering in hell just so her daughter has the chance she could never offer her. ive made a new fuckin enemy, and it just had to be a friggin powerful Demon whos probably plotting how itll have me by the balls next time it rears its ugly head. and god knows what itll teach sophie, how binding the contract was. to sum it up... dont ever call me again you fucking twat. clean up your own goddamn tragedies."

i missed my dinner... i had to clean up yet another mess... and im outta cigarettes, thought Adam. but you know what. nothing like taking the piss outta a priest to really make your night.

and with that, the lift doors closed behind him and Adam Occult seeps out of sight.

well! thats it! hope you all enjoyed Adam Occult. i will continue to write about him, hell make a great subject matter for me to stew on in camp. so till next time me lovelies, take scare!!!

The Fray's Little House

She doesn't look, she doesn't see
Opens up for nobody
Figures out, she figures out
Narrow line, she can't decide
Everything short of suicide
Never hurts, nearly works

Something is scratching
Its way out
Something you want
To forget about
