all of them knew whom they were cheering for, they just didnt know WHY

it was decidedly terrible weather when he stepped out his house. the clouds were a depressing hue, with thunder grimly rumbling in the distance and lashing rain as far as the eye could see. honestly, of all the days... with one last, sceptical look at the sky, he shrugged and popped open his umbrella. lighting up a cigarette to keep himself warm, he trudged out of the shelter and towards his bus stop.

on the bus to the mrt, he looked out the window and noticed that the rain would not be letting up anytime soon; it was still coming down as hard as ever, with the bleak sky stretching from horizon to horizon. now slightly worried about lunch plans, he nevertheless retained a stoic stand, assuring himself that over at clarke quay things would be a bit more conducive for an afternoon rendezvous with his best friends.

"well now i bet you wish we brought a couple more umbrellas huh" he morbidly asked jerome.

the both of them were trying their best to squeeze under his umbrella without looking too homosexual. this is not as easy as it sounds, because of both of them being quite hefty(the squeezing part), and jerome wearing a very alarmingly bright red cap(the homosexual part). behind the two walked yanni and wei ting, secure under jeromes umbrella which they relieved him of most unceremoniously so they could remain nice and dry.

turns out clarke quay was also facing a downpour, and the two girls did not come prepared. nevertheless, they staunchly made their way to the bakut teh stall, which they found out too late was closed in the afternoon. after being berated by them, and having sworn multiple times he remembered seeing it open in the afternoon, they decided to have their lunch in central instead.

jerome, being the kiang fellow that he is, impatiently dashed across the road. this resulted in him being subjected to an insane deluge, a broken sandal, and overall looking like a soahi while the other three took the overpass five metres up the road which jerome missed. so it was with great mirth the trio once again welcomed the soaking jerome back into their midst, having just seen him struggle with, and lose hilariously, to mother nature.

after jerome purchased a new shirt, the four friends made an impromptu decision to eat at waraku. they were tired and famished, and the ten dollar cost of what seemed to be a satisfying meal attracted them immensely. after spending an hour patrionising the place, they concluded that waraku served bland tasting food, ridiculously small proportions and unclean cutlery. itd be a long time before he would go back to that place.

after lunch, one of their number had to go for an interview to be a mushroom packer. the remaining three wished her luck and headed to coffee club to eat a monstrously huge mud pie for dessert. sipping on a tiramisu latte, which he found extremely tantalising, he and his two friends settled a bit and began chatting as only best friends could.

paying the bill, the three walked on over to boat quay where they sat down for a round of drinks. he had the 600ml hoegaarden, yanni had the 300ml while jerome had a drink they should serve only to women. you know the one, with a lemon and cherry in it. the three of them once more started talking openly to each other, sharing jokes and stories they would deign unsuitable in any other company.

however, soon the time came for them to part, and whilst yanni headed off for her gathering, jerome and him took the mrt back to newton and from there made their own ways home.

he would think later that that afternoon was the best hes had for months and months. and it was all because it felt like the days in an age past, when he and the others had all the time in the world. they could spend it all just enjoying each others presence and wandering around aimlessly yet still managing to have the most joyous of times. sighing contentedly, he closed his eyes and wished for more days like the one he just had.

You was always the cheerleader of my dreams
to seem to only date the head of football teams,
and i was the class clown that always kept you laughing
we were never meant to be, baby we just happened
so please don't mess up the trick,
hey young world, i'm the new slick rick,
they say i move too quick but we can't let this moment past us,
let the hour glass pass right into ashesl
et the wind blow the ashes right before my glasses
so i wrote this love letter right before my classes
how could a goddess ask someone that's only average, for advice
